No one imagines that a symphony is supposed to improve in quality as it goes along, or that the whole object of playing it is to reach the finale. The point of music is discovered in every moment of playing and listening to it. It is the same, I feel, with the greater part of our lives, and if we are unduly absorbed in improving them we may forget altogether to live them.
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable patriotism, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.
This is the litmus test I use: if I were a Christian parent walking in the school, and I heard over the PA system during morning announcements music with the words ‘Praise Allah. Allah is king on high. Bow down to Allah,’ how would I feel as a Christian parent with that being broadcast to all the children in the schools.
Through and through the world is infested with quantity. To talk sense is to talk quantities, It is no use saying the nation is large- how large? It is no use s aying that radium is scarce- how scarce? You can not evade quantity. You may fly to poetry and music and quantity and number will face you in your rhythms and your octaves.
The exciting myth at the center of the story remains -- how fame can be given suddenly and taken away, but this version also speaks to the idea of authenticity. This is a relatable concept in the age of social media, where anyone can create their own perfectly filtered brand and when so many of our music and film stars feel manufactured.
Our upright wasn't much of a piano — it was a half-step flat the entire time we owned it — but that piano was everything to me. It was dark mahogany, almost black, with rouge crimps all over it. I took about eight piano lessons before my teacher gave up on me. I loved boogie-woogie and hillbilly music and gospel too much.
The demand for commercial sex workers is high during the tourist season of October to February, but unfortunately there are very few rescues during this time as the police are busy with tourists and music shows and other activities, most rescues are during the monsoon, when the police are relatively free. But there haven’t been as many rescues as this data claims.
Probably the most rewarding thing was getting a phone call from [Ottos mother] Cindy Warmbier. She was so gracious and thankful. It was an affirmation that this is why we do it, this is the power that music can have, the main message is that they are not alone in their grief, not alone in their frustration, not alone in seeking answers and figuring out what happened to Otto, when it happened, and who is responsible and finding those responsible and holding them criminally accountable.
The town is very progressive, it’s a highly educated population -- 30,000 people are affiliated with the University of Colorado and another 5,000 with government and research labs. When you smash together people in college, people with deep technical knowledge and a bunch of creative people doing art and music in a small physical area, crazy, amazing stuff happens.
Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz, i will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith.
We live in a world of boundless possibility, but we also face daunting challenges, even to our very survival, i believe that during times of stress, confusion, and insecurity, we should share sources that offer comfort, purpose, and meaning. Bach does that. When his music touches us, it reconnects us to our common humanity.
If my extensive collection of all 53 ‘Now That’s What I Call Music’ compilations is any indication, I am both qualified and honored to join Ludacris in hosting this amazing show that spotlights the best music and artists of the year, i had so much fun hosting the Billboard Music Awards last year and I can’t wait to be back!
Well Jingle Cats was such a big hit when it first came out in 1993. It was an album of real cats singing 20 Christmas songs and it was nine cats, this year ... it's going to be a Jingle Cats movie completely done in 'claymation' and it's turning out pretty funny ... the music is really an animation and so with animated characters it works very well.
